How I show up for you

Friend,

I will be your wingman through new living situations or life changes.

I will engage you with your present community and help you find connection and new circles.

We will work together to transform the death experience from one of fear, trauma and confusion to one of peace, meaning and connection.

Death is as certain and sacred as life. A good death is one that is free from avoidable distress and suffering.

To have a good death, we have conversations, explore options, and make plans, preserving your autonomy throughout the journey. The plans we make now provide us with peace of mind later.

I learn what is important from you, and then we go about preparing and planning for this sacred passage, together.

What I believe

I am a certified death midwife. My instructor, Reverend Angie Buchanan, has a lovely way of explaining the purpose of death midwives. "We are the water that flows between the rocks of the medical profession and the funeral industry." Put more plainly, a death midwife is a non-medical helper that bridges the gap between the medical profession and the funeral industry, often working alongside the medical team.

I am available to you and your loved ones in the capacity to listen, to serve, to accompany, and to provide support and guidance without judgment.

A funeral should be an option, not a mandate, and I lay out the many possibilities for you to choose from and help determine what works for you. Clarity in decisions and talking about your plans creates peace for yourself and your loved ones.

As a life facilitator and death planner, my mission is to engage, empower and accompany seniors wherever they are on their life's path. As Brene Brown states in her book Daring Greatly, we are hardwired for connection, curiosity and engagement. If you are adjusting to solo senior living, or have entered a new environment or community, I will be your wingman and help you engage with your community, meet your neighbors and enjoy where you are.

My goal is to engage elders with their present life and also help them establish a plan for death and dying.

All of this work is non-medical; I am not a nurse, social work, or licensed counsellor. I am an ally, an advocate and a companion who will accompany you through your tapestry of life.

The triquetra knot is a type of Celtic trinity knot that symbolizes the continuous cycle of life, death and rebirth, and the strong bonds of the heart. The overlay of the heart is an emphasis of the love that accompanies all stages of life and death. This is close to my heart and my heritage and serves as a link to loved ones here and beyond. As my teacher, Rev. Angie, would often say, "no one gets out alive", and we honor that here by talking about it, removing the stigma, and returning the care of our dying to their loved ones.
